I recently created this painting in response to the WeMoon Calendar’s call for art for next year. The theme will be “Chrysalis”, and I didn’t have any paintings directly related to the theme, so I decided to create one. Actually, I find the image and idea of a cocoon to be a very fascinating one. The idea of a creature nesting within a self-created womb to wait out its growth until it emerges into a higher form of itself is one of the miracles of nature. It also speaks to the idea of self-evolving. Contemplating this, I decided to give my chrysalis a face. And why not a Buddha face? I believe that we are all on this earth to evolve and it takes many lifetimes to reach the goal.
This painting began poured acrylic paint on paper. As the imagery developed it was re-worked with oils, then mounted to panel.
Painting size: 14″x19″. With Frame: 19.5″x23.5″
